Leprosy Mailing List – June 25, 2024
Ref.: (LML) New publications on cross-cutting issues in NTDs. June, 2024.
From: Roos Geutjes and Sophie Vissers, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
In June, we've seen significant developments. The WHO has launched a new framework to eliminate visceral leishmaniasis in Eastern Africa (see practical materials), Chad has eliminated human African trypanosomiasis as a public health problem, and an interesting book was published providing a fully updated and extended overview on NTDs in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The special issue of this edition is on AI and its potential to support the elimination of NTDs. We are also happy to share the link to access the WHO website of the Global Initiative on Artificial Intelligence for Skin Conditions. Please check the website to profit from the NTD-related updates.
We also have some exciting updates about our website! The navigation menu and search functionality on InfoNTD are being optimized to enhance accessibility. These improvements will be implemented next month, and we will keep you informed.
We strive to make NTD tools more accessible, we've added translations of the EMIC-affected persons scale in Portuguese, Spanish, and Makhuwa/Macua to our database. Please share any translations or cultural validation studies of this scale or other NTD tools with us.
We are also excited to welcome Sophie Vissers to our team, who will be taking over from Josephine Breman-Srivastava during her leave.
Warm regards,
Roos Geutjes and Sophie Vissers
