I fully endorse what Wim van Brakel has so cogently and exhaustively expressed and explained (LML June 20^th, 2012).  His concluding paragraph needs to be explained well to all field workers including primary health care (PHC) doctors.   Please let us never forget the deep, immediate negative impact, call it stigma, shock or whatever, of the diagnosis of leprosy.  It shatters and there should be no scope for a false diagnosis.
