Ref.: (LML) Treatment for neuropathic pain
From: Francine Brandão, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Dear Pieter,
In my master study I noted that there were many patients with re-entrant neuropathy, making use of corticosteroids for more than 6 years. Those were patients who were already discharged from polychemotherapy.
Dr. Didier Bouhassira, a neurologist at Ambroise-Paré Hospital in Boulogne-Billancourt, told me recently that in France they use a capsaicin-based patch for the treatment of neuropathic pain in diabetes. Is anybody aware of this treatment and has this been tried in leprosy?
It seems that long time steroids are still used for the treatment of neuropathic pain in leprosy at least in Brazil. What would be the most effective anti-neuropathic (pain) treatments not using steroids?
Sincerely,
Francine Brandão
