(LML) Has the gecko myth been debunked?

Ref.:    (LML) Has the gecko myth been debunked?

From:  Ajit P, Maharashtra, India

Respected Sir,

Recently while browsing the internet, I came across information that there is (was?) a myth in Punjab, India and other places elsewhere like Egypt that house gecko or lizard or it's urine caused leprosy. I searched internet and pubmed for the same.

Have there been studies using current techniques like PCR to debunk this myth, proving that Mycobacterium Leprae or Lepromatis is not found in the gecko or it's scales or secretions or adhesive like secretions from it's pads?
