(LML) Emancipatory Research involving Persons affected with Leprosy

Leprosy Mailing List – July 19,  2019

Ref.:    (LML) Emancipatory Research involving Persons affected with Leprosy

From:  Sunil Deepak, India and Italy

Dear Pieter,

Over the past few years, with AIFO/Italy I have been involved in Emancipatory Disability Research (EDR) in a few countries. These are all cross-disability researches involving different groups of persons with disabilities. A couple of them also included persons affected with leprosy. We are now planning a meeting to review the lessons learned from these experiences.

The EDR initiatives involve training of a group of persons with disabilities to become researchers, who then identify their own research priorities and carry out the research. Experts and academic researchers play a supporting role in this process.

From the LML colleagues, I would like to know if you are aware of any other initiatives of emancipatory research involving persons affected with leprosy as researchers and can share this information with me?

Thanks in advance and best wishes,

Sunil
