Leprosy Mailing List – February 11 , 2021
Ref.: (LML) Infolep monthly overview of new publications on leprosy - Feb '21
From: Anniek Akerboom, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Dear colleagues,
Last January was an inspiring month for the leprosy community. We observed both World Leprosy Day and World NTD Day. Additionally, the WHO launched the NTD road map 2021-2030. World Leprosy Day allowed us to raise awareness on the curability of leprosy, to call for an end to leprosy discrimination and support mental health for people affected by leprosy. The NTD road map sets out global targets and actions to beat NTDs in the next decade. This momentum will be amplified by the Global Leprosy Strategy 2021-2030, which will be launched soon.
The website New Face for Leprosy, which went live last World Leprosy Day, is an interesting new initiative supported by Lepra. This initiative aims to reduce the stigma associated with leprosy by showing people affected by leprosy leading normal lives with jobs, families and interests. The people have a message of hope " ...do not despair, leprosy is not hereditary. You should see my beautiful grandchildren".
Please note that the Interim Advice on the use of rifampicin for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) by the ILEP Technical Commission is updated. To learn more, please click here.
Below you will find the list with new publications on leprosy and interesting events. The list also contains Portuguese articles at the bottom. Feel free to contact me to receive full-text versions if these cannot be found through the Infolep portal. Also, I would be happy to assist you with literature searches.
Warm regards,
Anniek Akerboom
