Dear Pieter and colleagues,
I would like to provide some additional information regarding outcomes following the neuroplasties / neurolysis / nerve decompression in Hansen's Disease as alluded to by Dr. Wilton and Dr. Theuvenet. Attached, you will find our long-term outcome study results published in Leprosy Review in 2017. You can also find it here: https://leprosyreview.org/article/88/1/09-5108
Furthermore, in that same year, we devised a thoughtful (managerially and statistically speaking) multi-center randomized-controlled trial at Johns Hopkins and collaborating institutions to provide high-quality evidence regarding the effects of nerve decompression in the context of Hansen's Disease. Included in our proposal was funding for local country staff coordinators and a variety of outcome measures.
We were unable to secure funding at that time; however, we are open to additional collaboration and insight on potential funding leads. Our collaborators represent Hansen's Disease organizations in several countries, including: Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Nepal, Netherlands, and USA.
Many thanks for your time and collegiality,
Eric
