Dear Pieter,

 

Just to mention the passing of Dr. William Felton Ross, aged 95, a legendary name in the field of leprosy. Dr. Ross served as treasurer of the International Leprosy Association  (ILA), and also devoted many years of service as executive officer of the International Journal of Leprosy, the scientific voice of ILA.

In Memoriam Goshen News, Indiana, March 11, 2022:


William Felton Ross, 94, husband of Una, died on March 3, 2022, in hospice care at his daughter's home in Goshen, Indiana.


A memorial will be held at Waterford Mennonite Church on March 17, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in Goshen. An online link to the service can be found at https://waterfordchurch.org/streaming/

Felton was born on May 9, 1927, in Leominster, England to Susannah (Hinton) and Aubrey Ross. Following two years of service in the Royal Army Service Corps (RASC)-Colchester and time working the family's farm, he gained a medical degree (MB.B.S.) from The London Hospital Medical College in 1954.


Felton's career as a Leprologist took him to Nigeria, India and Ethiopia. He was the founding Director of Training for the All-Africa Leprosy Education and Rehabilitation Training Center (ALERT) in Addis Ababa prior to then emigrating to New Jersey as the Medical Director of American Leprosy Missions for which he traveled extensively across the globe to evaluate and promote Hansen's Disease-related projects.

He relocated with ALM to South Carolina.


After his retirement, he remained active in mission governance, as well as in prison visitation and the Stephen Ministry with Fellowship Greenville.

Felton is survived by his wife of 62 years, Una (Dickinson) of Goshen,.
