Leprosy Mailing List – September 23,  2025

Ref.:  (LML) Infolep monthly overview of new publications on leprosy. September 2025

From: Upasana Regmi, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to share with you the latest edition of the Infolep newsletter, bringing together recent news, events, case reports, and research publications from across the globe.

WHO Global Leprosy Update 2024

The World Health Organization has published its latest Global Leprosy (Hansen Disease) Update, 2024: Beyond Zero Cases — What Elimination of Leprosy Really Means. Among the key findings:

  • 172,717 new cases were detected in 2024 globally.
  • Over the past decade there has been almost a 20% decrease in new case detection.
  • Progress is being made, but reaching elimination will require sustained efforts in detection, care, and inclusion.

These numbers tell a story of hope: We are moving in the right direction, but are also a reminder that the job is far from done.

At Infolep, we believe that knowledge-sharing is a key driver of change. Here's how Infolep can help push the needle further toward leprosy elimination:

  • Curating and disseminating the latest research, technical guidance, and toolkits.
  • Helping health professionals, programme managers, and NGOs stay updated on promising practices for early detection, stigma reduction, and inclusive care.
  • Serving as a platform where information is accessible globally, especially in endemic countries. so that no one is left behind.

Finally, you will find the latest publications listed below. We hope this collection will support your work, stimulate discussion, and provide useful resources for research, advocacy, and programmatic action.

As always, we welcome your suggestions and contributions for future newsletters. Please feel free to contact us if you would like access to full-text versions that are not available on Infolep, or if you would like our support with literature searches.

Warm wishes,
Upasana Regmi
