Dear Pieter,

Greetings from Bangalore, India!

This may not be the space to speak about it - however I was wondering if there is a way we can support those affected by Leprosy to participate proactively at the ILC. I was thinking of people who want to be at the event, absorb the proceedings, deliberate, take value and be engaged at a deeper level in the work.

There may be many people whose participation may not be from the leprosy colonies but are people who have the experience of Leprosy and want to contribute. These may be people who can speak for leprosy, if given an opportunity. People like me, who belong on the board of more than one charity (and board memberships are pro-bono). Since we do not belong exclusively to any one organisation, but belong to the work and speak for the work, we are often overlooked or passed over. The costs of registering as an individual may seem high to most.

I would love to hear from you all. The ILC should have enough people affected especially from the non-colony sector, participating. Especially those who can contribute. The ILC without enough representation of people affected living outside the colonies, would not be a balanced one, in my view. Especially since we are talking about people moving into communities and colonies becoming history, if we are to truly integrate everyone into the society.

Thanks and regards,

Jayashree
