Fw: (LML) GPZL landscaping of ongoing/unpublished research: Invitation to participate

                                                  Leprosy Mailing List – December 2,  2020

Ref.:  (LML) GPZL landscaping of ongoing/unpublished research: Invitation to participate

From:  Nienke Veldhuijzen, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Dear colleagues,

The Zero-Leprosy Research Agenda has recently been published (Steinmann et al, Infect Dis Poverty (2020)) and prioritized (GPZL website).

Developing and achieving consensus on the research agenda for zero leprosy is an important step forward for the leprosy community and may catalyse key scientific research.  As a next step, the Global Partnership for Zero Leprosy (GPZL) is conducting a landscaping and gap analysis of ongoing/unpublished research to identify those priorities that are currently unaddressed or insufficiently addressed.

The landscaping and gap analysis will be used:

 (1) to inform the development of a research agenda implementation, coordination and resource mobilization plan, which focuses specifically on those priorities that are currently not adequately addressed;

(2) to provide a baseline against which the implementation of the research agenda can be monitored.

The GPZL is supported in this endeavour by various members of the partnership who have accepted to disseminate the survey in their own networks. You may therefore receive this invitation more than once for which we apologize.  If you have already completed the survey once there is no need to do it again.

Who is invited to complete the survey?

Principal Investigators (PI)  of research projects that fit the criteria below. A PI is the person who has the ultimate responsibility for the conduct of a research project, including both site-specific PIs and the coordinating PI in case of multi-centred/multi-country projects.

What are the research project criteria?

  • It adheres to the following definition of a research project: A project conducted with the aim to answer a predefined research question which is clearly described in a study protocol, including furthermore a description of the methodology.
  • Leprosy is the (co-)primary disease of interest.
  • The research project is considered ongoing if:
    • The project is in the early stages of obtaining approvals/implementation;
    • The project is in the stage of data collection;
    • Data collection has been completed and data analysis is ongoing;
    • The results pertaining to the primary research question(s) have not yet been published.
    •

GPZL is assisted in this effort by the Leprosy Research Initiative.
