Ref.: (LML) A conditional cash transfer programme in Brazil improves leprosy treatment outcome
From: Gerson Penna, Brasília, Brazil
Dear Pieter and Colleagues,
The article (Effect of a conditional cash transfer programme on leprosy treatment adherence and cure in patients from the nationwide 100 Million Brazilian Cohort: a quasi-experimental study – see LML 5-05-2020) composes a large study coordinated by me, with the participation of The London SHTM, funded by the Medical Research Council and FAP (Federal District Research Support Foundation-Brasília- Brazil).
From the National Information System of Diseases of Notification, the Ministry of Health (Leprosy Information System) and the Cohort of Register of 100 Million Brazilians (Social Determinants in Health System), a series of scientific articles was prepared and published (links below) whose paradigm was to show the enormous influence of social determinants on leprosy, whether in the treatment adherence, cure, incidence, etc.
Interestingly, we are demonstrating academically and robustly what the Norwegians warned almost a hundred years ago.
