Leprosy Mailing List – June 26,  2020

Ref.:  (LML) InfoNTD monthly overview of the latest cross-cutting NTD publications - June, 2020

From:  Roos Geutjes, Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the ILEP/NNN Guides on Stigma and Mentall Wellbeing are online! More information on the Guides can be found in the section below.

We would like to share the news about the launching of the French version of the SkinApp through Google Play Store. The app will support French speaking health workers to diagnose and treat skin diseases including skin NTDs. The SkinApp has been developed by NLR. Partner organizations Damien Foundation and FAIRMED enthusiastically supported the development of the French version by translating the content.

In light of the continued advances in the prevention, treatment and control of NTDs, as well as the need for development of novel strategies and therapies to combat their prevalence, TAI (Therapeutic Advances in Infectious Disease - a journal of SAGE Publishing) is collating a Special Collection titled, "Neglected Tropical Diseases: Recent Progress and Future Challenges". TAI invites manuscripts relating to all aspects of the epidemiology, diagnosis and management of NTDs for consideration. Click here to submit your paper.

Enjoy reading the latest NTD publications that are listed below. This time the list starts with a number of very practical materials. Feel free to contact us to receive the full-text versions when a link to the full text is not included. We will also gladly support you with literature research.

Warm regards,

Roos Geutjes

ILEP / NNN Guides on Stigma and Mental Wellbeing

The ILEP/NNN Guides on Stigma and Mental Wellbeing (www.stigmaguides.org) are now online. They were designed with medical professionals, health and social welfare departments, non-governmental organisations and other agencies who want to better understand what stigma is and what can be done to reduce it and mitigate its impact on people affected by neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and their communities and society at large.Everyone should explore the site, discovering the full spectrum of content around the basic information about stigma; its causes and manifestations; as well as its impact on mental wellbeing; the importance of providing psychological first aid, the role of 'champions', and setting up support groups; targeting interventions to different audiences; and qualitative and quantitative methods and instruments for assessing the level and significance of stigma and mental wellbeing. The website has been created to optimise information exchange on promising practices and lessons learned and to support networking across communities of practice to advance shared goals.

To stay connected on social media, follow @InfoNTD on Twitter and @INFOLEP on Facebook.

If you have any questions or feedback you would like to share with the team, please do so b ygetting in touch by email at info@stigmaguides.org. We look forward to staying connected!

Dear colleagues,

We are happy to share the news on two launches with you.

Firstly, we are very excited about the launch of the ILEP/NNN Guides on Stigma and Mental Wellbeing. Visit us at www.stigmaguides.org. The Guides were designed so that everyone who is interested can better understand what stigma is, how it manifests, how it can be reduced, and the tools available to assess the experience of stigma and mental wellbeing by people affected by neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), their communities and society at large.

Everyone is encouraged to explore the Guides, discover the full spectrum of the content around the basic information about stigma; its causes and manifestations; as well as its impact on mental wellbeing.

For specific questions about the Guides, please get in touch by email at info@stigmaguides.org

Secondly, we would like to share that the French version of the SkinApp has been launched through Google Play Store. The app will support French speaking health workers to diagnose and treat skin diseases including skin NTDs such as leprosy. It has been great to collaborate with partner organizations Damien Foundation and FAIRMED who enthusiastically supported the development of the French version by translating the content. Another perfect example of coming one step closer to achieving our mission through collaboration.

Furthermore, like every month we send you an overview of publications on leprosy recently added to the Infolep website. To search the full collection, please visit www.leprosy-information.org. Feel free to contact me with questions, comments, or literature search requests. I would be happy to assist you.

Kind regards,

Anniek Akerboom
