Dear Pieter and colleagues,
The exclusion of chemoprophylaxis appears to be critical for reducing new cases of MB HD (leprosy).
It is not necessary for individual contacts to wait before protecting their own eyes, hands, feet. They can simply say no to chemoprophylaxis.
There is also published information about the disabling impact of chemoprophylaxis on natural immunity to HD:
