Teledermatology for leprosy and global dermatology

Leprosy Mailing List – February 20th, 2010

Ref.: Teledermatology for leprosy and global dermatology

From: Cesare Massone, Graz , Austria

Dear Salvatore,

We would like to present to the Leprosy Mailing List a recently founded teledermatologic web site for leprosy, tropical diseases and global dermatology: the LEPROSY & Global Dermatology project, available at http://brazil.telederm.org/default.asp .

Both clinical and/or histopathological cases can be presented and discussed in an open forum where each registered colleague can post his/her personal opinion on a given case. All cases are presented anonymously without sending patient’s personal data. A moderator checks that content of request is appropriate and is not offensive.

Beyond the free second opinion teleconsultation service and the discussion of interesting cases within the community, tele-education with lessons presentation in leprosy dermatopathology is also freely available.

The LEPROSY & Global Dermatology project is completely free of charge and it does not host or receive funding from advertising. The application is password protected: only physicians or healthcare workers are able to register and have access.

The web site has been conceived and founded together by S. Tahlari and A. Schettini fromManaus ( Brazil ), E. Nunzi and S. Noto from Genoa ( Italy ) and C. Massone from Graz (Austria ). About 50 colleagues already subscribed and more than 100 cases regarding leprosy and also global dermatology have been worked out. An archive with all presented cases is also available.

We think that this is a fast and easy tool to exchange knowledge and expertise among physicians on a worldwide level on tropical diseases with special emphasis on leprosy.

Colleagues seeking for a second opinion, diagnostic or therapeutic advices on a given case, expert physicians that like to present interesting patient and medical students interested in dermatology are welcome to visit and register tohttp://brazil.telederm.org/default.asp

Yours sincerely,

Cesare Massone, M.D.
