Dear Pieter,
I would like to add information on chemoprophylaxis leprosy with a single dose of rifampicin. A similar programme to eradication leprosy was carried out after the revolution of 1959 in Cuba. I was a participant of the meeting of health care leaders of Cuba with the staff of the Central Research Institute on skin and venereal diseases in Moscow in 1973. To my question about leprosy care programme the answer was:
«We have opened the door of the leprosarium and every patient and his close contacts took one single dose of rifampicin. We think that now we have no problems with the spread of leprosy."
However, now a days we see no difference between new cases in Cuba (rifampicin plus) and Haiti (no rifampicin).
