Leprosy Mailing List – January 27, 2025
Ref.: (LML) Request for Dissemination of Urgent Appeal on MDT Shortage
From: Claudio Salgado, Pará, Brazil
Dear Pieter,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am reaching out to kindly request your assistance in disseminating an urgent appeal regarding the severe shortage of multidrug therapy (MDT) for leprosy treatment in Nigeria through the Leprosy Mailing List (LML).
Attached to this email, you will find letters (one in Portuguese, another in English) outlining the critical situation and the actions needed to address this pressing public health issue.
The shortage of MDT has left thousands of patients, including over 800 children, at risk of severe and irreversible harm. These documents highlight the urgency of this matter and emphasize the importance of international collaboration and advocacy to resolve it.
Your support in sharing this information with the LML network would be invaluable in raising awareness and mobilizing action within the global leprosy community.
Please let me know if additional details are needed or if there are specific steps I should take to facilitate this process.
Thank you very much for your attention and for your continued efforts in supporting people affected by leprosy.
Best regards,
Claudio Salgado
