Dear Pieter & colleagues,

Dr. Felton Ross took a personal interest in empowering the younger generation of researchers & leprologists in endemic countries. This included arranging scholarships for some to pursue higher studies, supporting their participation in meetings of influential leprologists held far from endemic countries, even successfully proposing some to be included in global "Who's Who Under 30" on the basis of their work to fight HD and care for persons experiencing its adverse impacts.

At a time when decisions about endemic countries were made far from the frontlines, he set a good example of faith in the younger generation at the frontlines. His great faith in the potential of the younger generation in endemic countries has been played out in ongoing contributions by many individuals who continue to make a difference today.

R.I.P., great soul, mentor & exemplar. He lives on in the efforts of those he mentored.

Joel Almeida
