Dear Pieter,
I would like LML to publish the following communication (see attached file) about the annihilation of Fundhans (FUNDACAO PARA O CONTROLE DA HANSENIASE NO AMAZONAS) in order that those who work with Hansen Disease know what happened and reflect on the "power" of some leaders in de-structuring our work.
Fundhans, a NGO, was created to work in partnership with the Alfredo da Matta Foundantion (FUAM – a referral hospital for tropical dermatology and venereology, under the Secretary of Health of the Amazone State) in 1996. In January 2019, the newly appointed director of the Alfredo da Matta Foundation decided that he did not want to continue this partnership with Fundhans. This led to the decision to end the cooperation with Fundhans, and with losing this partnership the objectives of its creation were made void as well.
Those of us, who worked with the Hansen disease projects in the partnership FUNDHANS/FUAM all these years, deeply regret this decision by an institution which always supported the Hansen Control Program and those affected by the disease.
