Dear Pieter,
We have been discussing the effect of Convid-19 on leprosy services. However, MariAngela Trindade, dermatologist in São Paulo< Brazil, reminded me of the possible effects on Lucio and ENL.
I can only contribute in theory, so it is worthwhile to ask LML readers working in a Corona area what they are seeing. I cannot forecast a direct effect on Lucio. What could happen because coagulation is involved in both diseases? I can image that by introducing an inflammatory illness like Convid-19 this will have an influence on and could luxate ENL. Theoretically, since it may lead to an immunosuppression in severe illness, it may lead to IRIS, relapses, new developing disease and reactions.
She also suggested Thalidomide as a possible treatment. The thought is involvement of TNF- alpha but I recall that in sepsis and shock in did not work well.
