Dear Pieter,

 

Thanks to Professor Rao for his valuable comments on the treatment of LL leprosy with Rifampicin 600 mg (adults) OD as a part of MDT! When we joined the Leprosy work in 1986 at Anandaban, MDT would be given till smear negative and co-depending on the BI. For some LL cases this could take a 10 yrs before they became smear negative.

 

I would like to ask Prof. Rao that when he would get a free hand in drafting a new research protocol for the search of an optimal MDT regimen for LL leprosy, how would he as a renown expert design this?

 

Perhaps the step forward in effectuating the conclusions of such a research may be the last frontier to be passed for the elimination of leprosy?
