Ref.: (LML) The Treatment of MB Leprosy: We Can Do Better – Seeking the Best Treatment for Those for Whom We Are Responsible
From: Francesca Gajete, Manila, Philippines
Dear Pieter,
We do agree with Dr Robert Gelber and other colleagues on refocusing on The Standard Treatment Protocol for Leprosy most especially with the recent events of the Covid 19 and its Variants. Even our facilities intended for leprosy care in the Philippines are now geared towards general care services and established as Covid Centers.
Our Dermatologists are using their own treatment modalities even if the Leprosy Coordinators stick to the NLCP MOP which was usually presented to the GLP Managers meetings.
The Philippines have already finalized the Department of Health National Leprosy Control Program Clinical Practice Guidelines 2021. The references used were the presentations of esteemed Leprosy Experts and researches presented during the International Leprosy Congress 2019 held in Manila. Philippines. This document will be officially presented in time to WHO WPR and GLP by our Secretary of Health.
Thank you very much for LML for all the updates we are regularly shared.
Best regards,
Dr Francesca Gajete,MHA
