Dear colleagues,
The latest Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin of WHO dated 20 Dec. 2024 touches on preventive chemotherapy for NTDs. It mentions its use for lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis, schistosomiasis, and soil transmitted helminthiases. It also mentions the use of preventive chemotherapy for some other diseases but it does not mention leprosy and SDR.
Preventive chemotherapy is defined as "large-scale delivery of safe, single-administration, quality-assured medicines, either alone or in combination, at regular intervals, to entire population groups in communities and schools." SDR is not for the whole population but is only for contacts, perhaps that is why it is not mentioned in this report?
This bulletin also provides information on quantities of free medicines provided to countries, including the anti-leprosy medicines. You can check it at:
