Dear Pieter,
Referring to the letter of Joel Almeida of June 9, 2015: I greatly appreciate the efforts to wipe out leprosy from India (hopefully to other regions as well). Your inspiring contribution led me to look for a slogan or motto to eradicate leprosy. I would propose the slogan: “WIPE OUT LEPROSY FROM INDIA! NOW AND FOREVER!”
Realizing the slogan, I would humbly, propose the following plan of action:
1. You are the ones to help leprosy patients to report their initial symptoms of leprosy. Let’s us not rely or depend on patient’s cooperation. But let us (the school teachers) examine schoolchildren periodically on the early signs of the disease.
2. Wherever is found a case of leprosy, in that region, all schoolchildren shall be periodically tested. The frequency of examination could depend on the number of (new) cases detected in the community.
3. With the Government regulation, hopefully this plan will be carried out. Experts on leprosy control could decide on the frequency of examinations and when the routine examinations can be terminated.
