From:   K. Yamaguchi, SMHF, Tokyo, Japan

Dear Dr. Schreuder,

I would like to introduce the following publication to the readers of this mailing list.

A Life Fighting Leprosy. A Collection of the Speeches and Writings of Dr. Yo Yuasa. (Published by Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation, softback, 277 pages, June 2015)

Dr. Yo Yuasa, who turned 89 earlier this month, served as executive and medical director of Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation between 1975 and 2005 and as advisor until 2012. His tenure coincided with unprecedented changes in the world of leprosy, not least the introduction of multidrug therapy and its public health application. Dr. Yuasa was, in his own
words, one of MDT's "most radical protagonists" and in this collection of his speeches and writings spanning a 30-year period, he can be seen arguing passionately for MDT and making the case for why delivering the cure to all who need it should be seen as a moral responsibility of public health policy.
Dr. Yuasa also served two terms as president of the International Leprosy Association and his views on what he felt the ILA should be reflect his concerns over its future.

A Life Fighting Leprosy will become available online shortly.

Copies of the print edition are also available free of charge from Sasakawa Memorial Health Foundation. Please contact us if you would to receive a copy. <smhf@tnfb.jp
