Thanks for the e-mail that tells us about the 18th International Leprosy Congress.
I believe that for the congress to be significant, the people directly involved with treatment of the patients should participate and bring their experience. Unfortunately, in recent times, the people invited or attending on their own, are administrators. Somebody believes that it is not important to invite and, hence cover all their expenditures, the Doctors working directly with the patients.
Neither my colleague, Dr. G Chauhan, nor I were invited at the pervious International Leprosy Congress in Hyderabad, yet we are the ones who have published a few papers on innovative techniques in the field of reconstructive surgery in leprosy, we have operated more than 2800 nerves. One thing is for sure, neither Dr. Chauhan nor I will attend the conference unless sponsored; but as I said, there are funds for sponsoring administrators and accountants, but no funds for Doctors.
