18th International Leprosy Congress, Brussels, 16 - 19 September 2013

Leprosy Mailing List – December 23rd, 2012

Ref.:    18th International Leprosy Congress, Brussels, 16 - 19 September 2013

From:  C Smith, Aberdeen, UK

Dear Dr Noto,

I am delighted to see discussion on the leprosy mailing list about the content of the Scientific Programme for the 18th International leprosy Congress.  The International Leprosy Association along with the Local Organising Committee, appointed a Scientific Committee to oversee the planning of the Congress Scientific Programme.  The membership includes geographical as well as discipline representation, and is listed on the Congress website (www.ilc2013brussels.org).  The committee has made a number of key decisions about the organising of the programme and these are listed below.

The speakers for the 3 plenary sessions have been selected by the Scientific Committee and invitations have been sent, these include a number of speakers from outside the main field of leprosy.  The rest of the Scientific Programme will be based on the abstracts submitted and organised into Symposia by topic with a chair person nominated by the Scientific Committee.  A number of potential symposia have been suggested and are listed on the website but these will depend on what abstracts are submitted.  All abstracts submitted will be reviewed and scored by 3 members from a panel of referees, the highest scoring abstracts in each topic will be selected for oral presentation with all good, relevant abstracts selected for e-poster presentation.

The scientific programme and the topics to be presented are largely dependent on the number and quality of abstracts submitted – this means the programme will reflect the interests and research of the participants rather than any group or committee.  Please submit your abstracts before the deadline of 18th February 2013 at www.ilc2013brussels.org

Best regards,

Cairns Smith
