(LML) SW monofilaments

Leprosy Mailing List – August 13 ,  2013

Ref.:    (LML) SW monofilaments

From:  Dr. P. Narasimha Rao, MD, D.D, PhD, Hon. General Secretary IADVL,  India.

Dear Dr. Schreuder,

Let me first thank all  the members for their generous feedback and information provided on this issue. I really appreciate it.  I also thank them for supporting the idea of promoting the use of SW filaments by leprosy workers, including physicians.

With reference to the mail of Mr Robert Jerskey,  I agree to the assembly of the kits by various  low cost and indigenous methods, as they are functional and  very cost effective. In fact I am using one such set for last 8 years,  with the filaments mounted on plastic hubs of needle bases and stuck in place with a good adhesive, gifted to me by Dr Gurunatha Babu, a popular Leprologist of Hyderabad, India. Also the wherewithal for such making such sets is also not difficult to locate in Hyderabad.

I  thank Dr Robert Jerskey for offering to bring the loose filaments of various grades to Brussels leprosy congress.  Very happy to note that he intends to give them away free of charge which is very generous of him.  I would request my friend and  colleague Dr K Udaya Kiran (kirankoduri@yahoo.com)  who is travelling from Hyderabad to attend the congress,  to contact Mr Robert Jerskey to collect them from him,  for  their use in India.

I assure  all the members  that they would be put to good use as we are planning to  giving them away to  all those Dermatologists and Leprosy workers who are interested in leprosy management during  the 'Leprosy- CME & workshops' which IADVL is planning in next one year and more.

With best regards,

Dr. P. Narasimha Rao, MD, D.D, PhD
